Therapy
We provide unique and inspiring learning environments in which young people thrive both in and outside of the classroom.
At the heart of our approach is bespoke therapy and clinical intervention
Each of our provisions has a team of in-house clinical experts, ensuring every young person has access to on-site support from Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and other specialists as needed. This enables us to implement purposeful, targeted interventions while continuously tracking outcomes and impact.
We believe that unless a young person is able to feel emotionally secure they are less likely to fulfil their personal, social and educational potential. This is why we developed our Wave Model enabling children and young people to go on to realise a future filled with aspiration and achievement. Our Clinical Teams provide young people with exceptional therapeutic support, offering top-tier expertise, a high clinician-to-young-person ratio, and a diverse range of therapies.
Over the past year, our Clinical Team grew by 7% which has enabled us to provide more comprehensive clinical support than ever before. Delivering over 100,000 hours of clinical support across our Wave Model interventions alone. Alongside 5,930 hours of direct therapy for children who live and learn with us.
By embedding robust quality assurance measures, expanding therapeutic support, and developing specialist expertise, we have made significant strides in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our children and young people. Our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation remains central as we move forward, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Safe and Sound Protocol
We carried out a full pilot of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), an evidenced based listening therapy and practical application of Polyvagal Theory. The SSP is an accessible, non-intrusive model designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioural state regulation, and social engagement behaviours through specially filtered music. The protocol wholly aligns with Witherslack Group’s core practice model, and the growing international evidence base and our internal pilot strongly indicate the model is effective with the children and young people that live and learn with us. During this first pilot 162 assessments were made, 104 pupils listened to SSP music and more than 225 hours of music listened to in total.
The range of positive responses across the pilot group reported were:
Improved positive emotional expression (e.g. talking about how they were feeling)
Improved school attendance
Better sleep and settling
Reduction in anxiety and reporting feeling ‘relaxed’
Improved positive emotional expression e.g. talking about how they were feeling
Better class engagement
Better engagement with other therapies
Next year, we are expanding the roll out of SSP. There will be an additional 20 clinicians who will become certified SSP practitioners so that this new intervention can enable an additional 100 more children and young people to access improved living and learning opportunities.
Pupils feel safe, listened to and understood.
